Ecuador Cultural Exchange and Spanish Classes

We work with and recommend Vida Verde Spanish school in Quito. We also offer 2 kinds of courses for 1-2 weeks:

1. Spanish/ tourism cultural activities, excursions, and of course quality Spanish classes! ( see detail in program number 1 below )
2. Spanish/ volunteer work and tourism voluntary work in the local environmental school and on the farm ( harvesting planting etc ) cultural activities, excursions and Spanish classes ( see detail in program number 2 below )
Note- we can adapt these programs to your requirements.

1. Cultural Exchange/ Spanish School

Day 1. Travel to Bahía, leave Quito at 12.50 pm arrive 8.30 pm
Dinner and walk around Bahía
Stay at LIFE Hostel

Day 2. Introduction to Bahía and the ecocity, orientation. Travel to Rio Muchacho from Bahía, by boat and jeep. Lunch Orientation at the farm
Afternoon-Spanish classes

Day 3. Morning, tour of farm, visit the environmental school, prepare coffee- from the harvest to the cup! special lunch served in banana leaves
Afternoon- Spanish classes

Day 4. Spanish classes in the morning
Afternoon- make cups and spoons from gourd, crafts with vegetable Ivory and palm seeds. Fish river shrimp.

Day 5. Morning- Milking cows and Chocolate making – from the bean to the cup! Afternoon Spanish classes & Volley ball.

Day 6. Spanish classes in the morning
Afternoon- expedition on horse back to the waterfall and to see the monkeys, make Aloe Vera shampoo and a face mask made with local mineral clay or play football
Farewell campfire at the farm

Day 7. Morning- Hike out of Rio Muchacho
Seafood lunch in Canoa
Afternoon- on the beach at Canoa- options- horse riding on the beach, surf classes
Return to Bahia, Dinner
Outing by night in Tricycles
Return to Quito on night bus.

OPTION FOR EXTRA DAY
Visit by boat to see mangrove forest and large bird colonies including the largest population of frigate birds in Ecuador.
Bahia Ecocity tour, ecomarket, handmade paper workshop, recycling project, agroecology.
6pm snack in the sunset-local specialty; yuca bread and yogurt.
Note: Students are welcome to participate in Farm activities at any time

2. Spanish /Cultural Exchange/ Volunteer Program (14 days)

Day 1.-
-Arrive to Quito, transfer to Hotel

Day 2.-
-Travel to Bahía by bus (leave at 12H50 arrive at 8 pm) interesting scenery as you come down the Andes into tropical coastland. Stay in Hostel LIFE

Day 3.-
-Visit lookout point then travel to Rio Muchacho, by boat, jeep and on foot.
-Pass environmental school en route. Orientation, tour of farm.
-Slides in the evening ( the area, local culture, the purpose of the school/farm etc.)

Day 4.-
-Morning on the farm- filling papaya circles with mulch, planting papaya, trimming banana palms.
-Special lunch served in banana leaves
-Spanish classes in the afternoon

Day 5.-
-Morning on the farm, learning how to use a machete, clearing, fertilizing, planting and mulching citrus plants.
-Spanish classes in the afternoon
-Volley ball

Day 6.-
-Morning on the farm- fertilizing and preparation of soil in vegetable garden, transplanting
-Spanish classes in the afternoon

Day 7.-
-Morning on the farm- building a new worm bed with bricks. General maintenance of
worm and guinea pig area.
-Spanish classes in the afternoon

Day 8.-
-Day on the beach at Canoa, horse riding, and surf classes (optional )

Day 9.-
-Morning at the school, general maintenance, painting, weeding, construction etc.
-Cultural afternoon- Making cups and spoons from gourd, crafts with vegetable ivory and palm seeds. Slides in the evening- ( Ecuador )

Day 10.-
-Morning on the farm. Collecting stones in the river and building a stone path with cement.
-Cultural afternoon- fish river shrimp, Chocolate making – from the bean to the desert ! football game.

The cultural exchange includes some volunteering too

Day 11.-
-Morning on the farm –planting corn, weeding and applying liquid fertilizer.
-Cultural afternoon-expedition on horse back to the waterfall and to see the monkeys.
-Make Aloe Vera shampoo and a face mask made with local mineral clay

Day 12.-
-Cultural morning- milking cows and making cheese, preparing coffee- from the harvest to the cup !
-Afternoon on the farm varnishing, painting and thatching roofs.
-Farewell campfire at the farm

Day 13.-
-Morning on the farm reforestation, nursery work and tree planting
-Lunch and return to Bahía
-Dinner in Bahía and return to Quito. (bus leaves 10 pm- arrives approx 6 am)

Day 14.-
-Arrive to hotel and relax.
-Breakfast
-Visit to old town Quito (World Heritage City) and in the afternoon visit to the Equator Monument and museum.
-Time for purchasing arts and crafts/ souvenirs, etc.
-Dinner
-Night in Quito

Day 15.-Transfer to airport and return.
